What we do for you, what we need from you, and how we get paid. Written plainly, because terms nobody reads protect nobody.
The short version. We find you a better energy deal and sort the switch. You pay us nothing — the supplier pays us commission, and you can ask us what it is. Your energy contract is with the supplier, not with us. If we can't beat what you're on, we'll say so.
Costiva Energy is a trading name of Costiva Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 10452278. Registered office: Viglen House Business Centre, Alperton Lane, Wembley, HA0 1HD. ICO registration ZC211829.
Below, "we" means us and "you" means your business.
We're an energy broker. We compare business gas and electricity deals across a panel of suppliers, tell you what we've found, and sort out the switch.
We don't supply energy. We don't generate it, send you bills or read your meter. Your energy contract is between you and the supplier, on their terms. We're not part of it.
We can't promise to beat your current rates. Sometimes you're already on a good deal, and we'll tell you that rather than move you for the sake of it.
Our panel isn't the whole market. No broker's is. Ask and we'll tell you who we've been to.
To get real prices we usually need a Letter of Authority. It's a short document that lets suppliers give us your usage data and talk to us about your account.
It lets us ask questions and get quotes. It does not let us sign anything for you. Nothing is agreed until you sign the supplier's contract yourself. You can cancel the LOA whenever you like — just tell us in writing.
Suppliers price on what they're told. Wrong information means a wrong quote, a switch that gets blocked, or a price that changes once they see your real usage.
You don't pay us anything. The supplier pays us commission when a contract we've arranged goes live.
It's usually collected as a small amount added to your unit rate, so it comes back through your energy bill over the life of the contract rather than as a bill from us.
You're allowed to know exactly what that amount is. Since 1 October 2024 Ofgem has required the broker fee to be shown in the main terms of your supply contract, and suppliers have to tell you if you ask. We'll tell you too, before you sign — and we'd rather you asked.
Commission varies by supplier, contract length and how much you use. It doesn't change what we recommend. If the deal that pays us less is the better one for you, that's the one we'll put forward.
Energy prices move every day. Most quotes only last as long as the supplier says — often until the end of the day. A quote is the supplier's offer, not our promise.
Suppliers can pull an offer or change the price before you accept, or after they've run credit checks and looked at the meter. If a supplier turns you down on credit, that's their call and we can't overturn it.
Any savings figure we show you is an estimate, based on what we know at the time and on your current rates staying as they are. It isn't a guarantee. What you actually pay depends on what you actually use.
We give you a view on energy contracts. We don't give legal, financial, tax or investment advice, and nothing we say should be treated that way. If a decision reaches beyond your energy bill, get proper advice on it.
We'll do this job properly and with reasonable care.
What we're not responsible for:
Nothing here limits our responsibility for death or injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law says can't be limited. Beyond that, the most we can owe you is the commission we earned on the contract the problem relates to. We aren't liable for lost profit or lost business.
Our privacy policy covers this properly. The short of it: we use your details to get quotes and set up your contract, we pass suppliers what they need to price you, and we don't sell anything to anyone.
Calls about a quote or a contract may be recorded. We'll tell you at the start of the call.
Tell us first. We'd much rather fix it. Our complaints procedure explains how we handle it and how long we take.
If we can't sort it out, you can take it to an independent dispute resolution scheme. We are a full member of the Dispute Resolution Ombudsman, membership number E3629. Our complaints procedure explains how that works and has their contact details.
Problems with your actual energy supply, your bills or your meter go to your supplier — they hold that contract, not us.
You can stop working with us whenever you want. Just tell us in writing. We can do the same.
That doesn't undo any energy contract you've already signed. Those run their full term with the supplier, and the supplier may still pay us commission on them.
These terms, plus our privacy policy and complaints procedure, are the whole agreement between us.
We update these terms from time to time. The one that applies is whichever was published when we acted for you. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
If a court decides one part of this doesn't hold up, the rest still does.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales deal with any dispute.
